पनवेल-सियाचेन.. एक सायकल प्रवास!

एका मराठी तरुणाची साहसकथा

कधी राजस्थानातला प्रचंड उष्मा तर कधी हिमाचलातला प्रचंड पाऊस, कधी शून्य तापमान तर कधी ४५ डिग्री सेल्सिअस तापमान.. या अशा प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीतही तो न थकता दिवसाला १२५ किमी अंतर कापत होता, तेही सायकलवरून! पनवेलच्या सुमीत परिंगे या तरुणाची ही साहसकथा आहे. जगातील सर्वात उंच लष्करी तळावर डोळ्यात तेल घालून मायभूचे रक्षण करणाऱ्या आपल्या सैनिकांना अभिवादन म्हणून सुमितने पनवेल ते सियाचेन हा प्रवास सायकलवरून करण्याचे ठरवले. तब्बल ३६०० किमीच्या या प्रवासासाठी त्याला लागले ५२ दिवस. त्यापैकी ४७ दिवस तो सायकलवरच होता. २० जुलैला पनवेलातून या प्रवासाला सुरुवात करणारा सुमीत ११ सप्टेंबरला सियाचेनहून परतला. एवढा खंडप्राय प्रवास करणाऱ्या सुमीतचे सियाचिन येथे लष्करी तळावर स्वागत करण्यासाठी बेस कमांडर, एअर बेस कमांडर, लेफ्टनंट कर्नल, मेजर असे लष्कराचे एकूण २५ अधिकारी उपस्थित होते. सुमीतने हडपसरच्या कॉलेज ऑफ इंजिनीअरिंग येथून इन्स्ट्रुमेंटेशन अँड कंट्रोल फॅकल्टी या विषयात पदवी प्राप्त केली आहे.

रोजचा दिनक्रम
जम्मूपर्यंत दरदिवशी साधारण १२५ किलोमीटर आणि त्यानंतर ७० ते ८० किलोमीटर अंतर सुमीत रोज पार करत होता. विशेष म्हणजे या संपूर्ण प्रवासात त्याला त्याच्या कॅनंडेल कंपनीच्या सायकलनेही उत्तम साथ दिली. या संपूर्ण प्रवासात मंदिर, धर्मशाळा, आश्रम, लॉजेस आणि आर्मी कॅम्प हे वास्तव्याचे ठिकाण आणि रस्त्यांवरील ढाबे हे खाण्याचे ठिकाण होते.

पहिलाच भारतीय
सियाचेनपर्यंत सायकलने प्रवास करणाऱ्या सुमीतने गेल्या वर्षी डिसेंबरमध्ये पनवेल ते कन्याकुमारी हे १७०० किमीचे अंतरही सायकलने पार केले होते. त्यामुळे देशाचे दक्षिणोत्तर टोक यातील साडेपाच हजार किमीचे अंतर सायकलने पार करणारा तो पहिलाच भारतीय ठरला आहे.

१५० किलोमीटर आणि सहा तास
सियाचेन बेस कॅम्पला जाण्यासाठी सामान्य नागरिकांना विशेष परवानगीची आवश्यकता असते. पनामिकच्या पुढे सामान्य नागरिक जाऊ शकत नाहीत. त्यामुळे त्या विशेष परवानगीसाठी पनामी ते प्रतापपुरा हा जवळपास १५० किमीचा अतिरिक्त प्रवास सुमीतला करावा लागला. पनामिकमध्ये लष्कराच्या तीन मेजरना भेटण्यासाठी त्याला तब्बल सहा तास वाट पहावी लागली.

शिक्षण संपवून नोकरीला लागण्याआधी अनेकांना फिरण्यासाठी परदेशात जाण्याची इच्छा असते, परंतु मला सर्वात आधी आपला देश फिरायचा आहे. त्यासाठी सायकल हे उत्तम वाहन असून त्याचा फायदा आपोआप सायकलिंगच्या प्रचारासाठीही होतो. - सुमीत परिंगे

Korlai Fort , Maharashtra

Korlai Fort is a Portuguese fortification in the town of Korlai, Maharashtra. It was built on an island which guards the way to the Revdanda Creek. It was meant as a companion to the fort at Chaul. At this strategic position the Portuguese could use it to defend their province which stretched from Korlai to Bassein. Vestiges of the Portuguese occupation are manifested in the distinct dialect of the Korlai villages inhabitants which is a Luso-Indian Portuguese Creole called Kristi.

Offroad biking : Charkop-Marve-Manori

Yet another off road biking rout explored. It was around 50-55km ride, Charkop-Marve-Manori (by Ferry boat to go opposite side)-Uttan-Kashimira-Charkop. When I started in the morning, it was not decided that, I will ride on this rout. 

But when I crossed over a creek and heading towards Uttan, on my left side, I found a small lane, which was going towards beach. There is small PIR BABA Darga as well so tempted to go and see the place. 

But that rout took me to rock land. I climbed up with my cycle and opposite side I found another muddy road. It is just 200mtr. Uphill and reach to the plateau. Where you find a small pond where Ducks were enjoying. 

That rout continue with bit downhill again towards beach. It ends where you see; it’s like a deep valley in front of you. Coming back again on plateau, I found another rout on my left.

Started following that rout… muddy, greenery around, which was finally, took me to smooth road. From there back to Uttan road... Met with the rain on my way back to home by Kashimira till Charkop.

ट्रेकर ब्लॉगर : सायकलवरून अरुणाचल प्रदेश

उगवत्या सूर्याचा प्रदेश म्हणून ओळखल्या जाणाऱ्या अरुणाचलचा अंतर्गत भाग आजदेखील अनेक बाबतीत दुर्गमच आहे. या प्रदेशात पर्यटकदेखील फारसे भेट देत नसताना, सात मराठी सायकलस्वारांनी मात्र मनसोक्त सायकली दौडवून अनोखी दिवाळी साजरी केली. 

असा झाला सायकल प्रवास
सोळा दिवसांमध्ये साधारण साडेसातशे किलोमीटर सायकलिंग झाले. साडेसात हजार फुटांवरून सुरुवात केल्यानंतर आम्ही जवळपास साडेआठ फुटांपर्यंत सायकल वरून आलो. मुंबई-कोलकाता-दिब्रूगढ (आसाम) असा विमानप्रवास केल्यानंतर, दिब्रूगढच्या मोहनबारी विमानतळ ते तिनसुखिया हा तीस किलोमीटरचा प्रवास टेम्पोमध्ये पॅक केलेल्या सायकल टाकून केला. दुसऱ्या दिवशी तिनसुखिया (आसाम) ते अरुणाचल प्रदेश आणि आसामची सीमारेषा असलेल्या दिराक गेटपासून सुरू झालेला सायकल प्रवास भारत-चीन सीमारेषेला भोज्जा करून, म्यानमारमध्ये साधारण १५ ते २० किलोमीटर सायकल चालवून पुन्हा एकदा आसाममधील तिनसुखिया या शहरात येऊन थांबला. दिराक गेट - तेजू - सलंगम - हायलिआंग - चांगवन्ती - वालाँग आणि परशुराम कुंडावरून परत येताना ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व असलेल्या आणि दुसऱ्या महायुद्धाच्या दरम्यान बांधण्यात आलेल्या स्टिलवेल किंवा लिडो रोडवरून सायकलिंग केलं. याच रस्त्यावर असलेल्या लेखापानी या सद्य:स्थितीत सुरू नसलेल्या ईशान्येकडील भारताच्या शेवटच्या रेल्वे स्थानकालाही भेट दिली.

तिथून सायकलिंग करतच पांगसाऊ पासपर्यंत गेलो. हा पास भारत आणि म्यानमारच्या सीमेवर आहे. तिनसुखियापर्यंतच्या परतीच्या प्रवासात जयरामपूर तसेच दिगबोईमध्ये असलेल्या दुसऱ्या महायुद्धाच्या स्मारकाला आणि ज्या ठिकाणी भारताला पहिल्यांदा तेल सापडलं त्या जागी उभारण्यात आलेल्या म्युझियमलाही भेट दिली. वाटेत वाक्रो - जागून - खरसांग - जयरामपूर - मार्गारेटा - तिनसुखिया करत पुन्हा एकदा मुंबईसाठी दिब्रूगढहून आकाशाच्या दिशेने झेपावलो.

Offroad Biking : Charkop - Uttan beach - Gorai creek - Charkop

Another offbeat Sunday ride! It was a total 52km ride including 6-7km off road. Charkop,Kandivali - Uttan beach - off road - Gorai creek - Charkop. Uttan is a coastal town just north of Mumbai in Thane district. The area has a significant East Indian Catholic population. Next to the beach there is famous Our Lady Of Velankani Shrine.It is an important aspect in the life of native Uttankars(people staying in uttan). On my way back met some cyclist friends who showed the new off road biking route. We were lucky enough to get very sweet Karvanda (fruit). When we were tired enough after riding in mud, on one request we got to drink cold water from deep well. The off road meets Uttan's famous destination Keshavsrushti. From there, another 7km ride to Gorai creek. and we loaded our bike on boat to reach another side of creek. After reaching home 2 glass of Nimbu Sharbat and Chicken-Bhakri in lunch make your Sunday ride worthy.

Enduro3 : The Adventure Race

A team sport, an Adventure Race tests the competitors’ physical and mental endurance. The teams cover a vast area; navigating from checkpoint to checkpoint steering past a combination of disciplines like orienteering and navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing and related rope skills. NECC NEF Enduro3, the adventure race is India’s first and only adventure race. We able to finish this race in 26 hours and was at 6th place in our category, which had 17 teams. (Amature Mix).
